Hey BGSJ juniors..

First of all, frm wad i heard from our own instructors (Vivien & Michelle), u guys hu r in BN n AN have successfully survived the 2-day (bn) or 3-day (an) course. CONGRATS K, PEOPLE! :)

I drop by here having a sincere intention to state some tips (the things that i cud rmb frm my xperience in nco course in '06 n '07) I noe most of u guys r tired afta tense training during the the course itself and now, this week u guys have to revise ur nco course booklet for your theory exam on Sun as well as practise your MOI (for the AN). However, hope u guys cud juz glance thru this post here bcause all this tips here might/might not help u guys :)

Tips for Exam:

THEORY

* Make sure u guys revise the booklet cz especially for AN, sometimes the ans is directly stated in ur booklet.
* Memorize some of the impt keywords if needed cz that can make u guys feel that u r confident that ur ans written is perfectly correct
* Understand the notes cz sometimes when u understand,u can memorize it easily or even need not to
* Clear your doubts b4 the exam day coz u r well- prepared for it. If possible, dont do it at the last min. cz u will definitely kanchiong.
(ask ur grp instructors/ grp mates/ course mates/ current ncos.. ANY1 u guys comfortable wif)
* Have some general knowledge bout things that r not directly in the booklet but definitely related to st john
(Eg. regarding ur st john full u - the position of ur cap badge.. may be qn : 'where is the right place ur cap badge shud be'.. there will be several options n the ans shud be 'directly above ur left eyebrow')-->This pt is especially for the BN.

MOI, FIRST AID PRESENTATION (AN)

* Understand what u r presenting
* Memorize some points if needed to avoid urself to read directly from the powerpoint itself
* Make the presentation interesting if possible cz tat makes u score better marks ( if u guys wanna noe more interesting presentation styles, ask michelle (: Really!! Must Ask!! )
* Have a good start and good end for ur presention cz first impression counts
* Work well wif ur partner n help out each other (try to cover up each other's mistakes if there is durin the presentation itself... shhh.. dont say i say this (: Bt i'll pray hard tat u guys dont make any mistakes k )
* Rehearse ur presentation twice or thrice if possible so that u guys are very prepared. At least u guys noe when its ur turn to takeover ur partner durin the presentation or which eva
* Be loud and clear throughout the presentation

MOI, FOOTDRILL (AN)

* Make sure ur overall presention is perfect as in ur full u, ur beret , ur boots, ur socks ( all that must be in tip top condition because ur overall look is part of ur marks)
-So, before u go for ur exam, adjust one another's uniform so that everyones is in perfect condition :)
* Make sure u noe how to report to the examiner when ur name is called to carry out the exam. Ask ur grp instructors the latest procedures if u r unsure cz there might be bits of changes.
* Make sure u noe what u r going to teach or that day. Must prepare in mind cz u might hesitate here and there if u do imprompto(sori idk how to spell)
* Practise the procedures practically mayb wif ur grp mates or coursemates so that u r fully prepared on the exam day.
* Be firm wen u give commands
* Emphasize the ending words cz its the start of the execution
* Be loud and clear when u give commands/instructions
* Look confident throughout the exam when u giv instructions/ teaching.. which eva

Tips for Camp:

1) Organize/ Pack ur belongings properly so that u can retrieve it quickly and easily (newly added)
- U may not be given such a long time to get ur items
2) If possible, prepare 2 nametags. (newly added)
-1 for full u, 1 for pt kit ---> easier for changing parade

GROUP IC

* ALWAYS take care of the flag. Dont Lose it. Pass to ur grp mates/ course mates if u needed to do anyting. Just dont Abandon it. Treat it s ur own belonging.
* Dont ever let ur flag touch the ground especially wen u guys in pumping position. Fold it quickly so tat it will lies on ur both hands nicely/ s long s it cud sustain
* Listen attentively to ur course ic because u will be leading ur grp mates at the same time. * Always take note of ur grp strength (people hu fall out n their reasons, absentees, people hu r present at that point of time). Because u have to report to ur course ic now n then.
* Be loud and clear as u give commands to ur grp mates when checking strength/ reporting strength

COURSE IC

* Be cool when ur name is called to be the course ic. Dont kanchiong!
* Dont be scared! Eventhough it'll be a bit (i mean a lot!) scary at the beginning, juz be confident!
- U definitely have my support, ur course mates support!! i can assure u!
* Greet every officers n instructors u see. Dont ever neglect evn 1 of them. Its a MUST!! (cz u r leading the whole course itself)
* Give clear instructions if possible so that ur course cud execute it smoothly.
* Note the time. Give suitable time for the things that u guys r supposed to do. Dont repeat my mistakes of giving such a short time for them having to do such a big ting:).
- Always rmb : ' In terms of leading, u hav to think logically and the speed of doing things. Theres a diff. bet. fast and able to do it and fast but not possible to do it.' - a piece of impt advise frm Zi Peng Sir that i always rmb :)
- Sometimes its difficult to immediately set a time for the course to do certain thing. Juz do what u think its right.
* Dont be discourage or disheartened if u get scolded by any instructors/ officers because u made mistakes. Eventhough u felt guilty afta the scolding, juz calm urself dwn and learn frm mistakes and try to avoid it the next time. U definitely have ur coursemates/ instructors that believe that u will nt giv up n continue to encourage u further :)
* Always take initiative. U may not wait for the D.I / D.O to giv u the instructions to check strength. If u think its the right time to check the course strength, juz continue to do so.
- For eg. fire drill session.

OTHERS

* Always help one another. Help ur grp ic n course ic if they needed help.
- For eg. in terms of carrying things, the grp ic have to carry the flag so help them to carry some of their belongings if needed.
- For eg. water bottles. Help one another align the bottles in straight lines.
- U guys r grp mates n course mates! Help one another!
* Always keep ur belongings in place where its supposed to be on the table in ur respective bunks b4 u proceed to any location/ b4 u sleep. Because bunk inspection can be carried out at any point of time.

All these tips stated here is frm my own experience when im in basic n advance course. This tips might be quite useful for some of u , i hope!!

And err, well, this post is for us to post about our feelings during the trainings so i shall start the ball rolling?

*clear throat*

1. I am quite satisfied with the attendance this two weeks, however i know that it can be improved.

2. I know that some cadets give super lot of excuses just to skip the training, hope you guys can "lure" them back for training every week okay? ;D

3. Sec 2s footdrill are ________. Fill in the blank yourself :) But not bad, at least your bang are coordinate, which is a veryyy good thinggggg. Haha.

4. I want you all to know one for all, all for one. When we tekan you, don't blame other people.

5. Sec2s please be patient with the sec1s and sec1s, please go home and practise your drills okay? :)

6. Our aim is to prepare the sec2s for BNCO this year, and frankly speaking, i'm worried for you all. Well, at least some of you all. So, must really buck up yea~!

Thats all i can think of now, and i'll update more next time.
